It's Hailey's Turn for a health problem :)

Yesterday my morning started by taking Noah and Hailey to the doctor... Noah for a follow up from his scare last week (and he's totally fine now) and Hailey because around her right eye had swollen up and her eye lid was sagging... after 2 doctors looking at her and not 100% sure what was up they diagnosed her with this: (found it on Newsweek.com)

Orbital cellulitis
It is a rare, acute infection of the eye socket. It affects primarily children, and the onset is rapid and severe. Bacteria enter the orbit of the eye, often from an infection in the sinuses, a boil on the eye or eyelid, or a foreign object. The soft tissue lining becomes infected. In most cases only one eye is affected. This is an acute and dangerous infection and may require hospitalization and antibiotic treatment.

They started her on Augmentin... told me to return FIRST thing this morning and to be prepared to go the ER with her if things didn't look better. I guess they would have to give her a stronger antibiotic through an IV... yep, another mommy scare with a child in the Doctor's office... Thank heavens the antibiotic seems to be working; this morning her eye looked so much better so they sent us home!

I am even more thankful for healthy days than I have ever been in my entire life!

The past 2 weeks

Wow what a couple of weeks we've had here in our home. A week ago Monday Noah fainted while sitting at the table (enjoying an after school snack) I wasn't at the table, just 3 yards away on the Computer when he hit the ground... honestly at first I didn't think much of it, he tends to trip or fall a lot (darn carpet), but then Hailey started to panic and tried to pick him up so I came running (this all happened in less than a minute). I got to him picked him up, he was scared, he said everything went black and he didn't know where he was. Well.... Me being the brilliant mother than I am (yes, after you read this you too will want to nominate me for "mother of the year") held him, called my husband (the man is always calm and never sees the need to seek medical help, well VERY rarely) who reassures me that he's "most likely fine" and not to stress. So against my better judgement I opt to "watch him" well he seemed fine, he wasn't confused or dazed or anything... he asked for dinner about an hour after it happened, ate and played and was "normal", that is except for the awful cough he's had... so the next morning I see a HUGE bruise on the side of his face near his chin (bigger than a silver dollar), apparently he hit his face on the table when he fell to the ground (yep, mother of the year here I come). But even that wasn't a "red flag" to seek medical adivice... afterall I used to "faint" as a child... pretty regularly... just as my family... it was always a show stopper to see me faint at dinner, while getting my hair combed or at school... I had all the testing they could come up with, took some seizure medications for a while and eventually it just stopped... so for me... people "just faint" so it's "no big deal"...

Well... Noah's cough was awful on Tuesday morning (the morning after he fainted) and he sounded like he was "wheezing", thanks to Hailey for having had Bronchitis with Asthmatic symptoms last fall I knew the "wheezing" sounds well... so I decided we should head to the pediatrcian... 2 hours later and after being lectured by each member of the office that I told he had "fainted" the night before... we ended up in the "ER" for some testing... 7 hours an EKG, CatScan, Blood work (I fainted while they tried to draw HIS blood... yep, told you "people just faint") and a Chest X-ray we were given a pretty clean bill of health for him (every test came back normal) and sent home with antibiotics for the "bronchitis" that he seemed to have....

Oh, it was a VERY long day, I missed Faith's Spring Concert, where she sang a short solo to a crowd of hundreds.... luckily Mike was home and made it in time to record it... you can see it on Youtube click the link on the next post. I was beat and so was Noah... long day and in the end "mom was right" but It taught me it's better to be safe than sorry!

7 Random or Weird Facts about me... tag I'm it!

My Cousin Kim tagged me to come up with 7 Random or weird facts about myself... here goes...

#1- I hate the heat... no seriously I do, living in NY in the heat/humidity in the summer can feel like a prison sentence. Yep, coming from a girl who grew up in the Utah Desert and lived in So. Cal... I still hate the heat! (But I also hate the extreme Cold... so Hawaii here we come)?

#2-I count steps... not sure why but I find that I do count them.... OCD? Actually when I think about it, I count many things, usually by 2's!

#3- When I was a teenager I actually said that I never wanted to have kids and I was going to be a professional Basketball player... yep, my love for Karl Malone was STRONG! What a dummy I was... kids are the best part of life!

#4- I never wanted to live outside of the state of Utah... honestly the thought terrified me... and I actually uttered the sentence "I NEVER want to live in California or New York" WOW... I've learned my lesson, I'll never say "I NEVER" AGAIN!! Thankfully at this point in my life I would be content to live anywhere, it's the family that is with you and how you live that's important, not "where you live", which I've come to realize means I don't need a Big house or even a house to be happy in life... (wow! that one took a while)!

#5- I am addicted to way too many TV shows... for now American Idol, The Office and Scrubs keep me happy. I'm still waiting for Heros and Eli Stone to start again... maybe Army Wives if my DVR can handle it all. GO ARCHULETTA... or I mean David COOK, come on a ROCKER needs to win!

#6- I can't stand to be "honked" at while driving... the truth is, if you honk at me... it's a guarantee that I won't do what you want ANY faster!...NO it will not make me turn ANY faster, speed up or GO... it has always bothered me that someone behind me seems to know what is "safe" for me to do... (I guess I should work on my issues with it)! And while I'm confessing my faults... I talk to other drivers behind the windows of my car... yep, I tell them what they are doing wrong or how dangerous they are driving or "what are you thinking" pops out of my mouth from time to time as well.... Yep I'm working on both problems!

#7- I grew up in the "greatest snow on earth" and have never been on a pair of snow ski's! And honestly... I don't have the desire to ever ski... unfortunately for me, my sweet husband LOVES to ski and has decided that it is his mission to get me on a pair... UGH...

Let's see I tag... Lindsey, Erecca, Cheri, Shauna and Jenilee to share more with us about themselves!

Spring!

I love Spring.. not just because my birthday is the day after Spring starts.... but because I love the colors and the smell in the air... I love that my kids want to be outside running and playing after being in the house during the winter... the only thing I love more than Spring is FALL... now that's my favorite season of the year...

A couple of weeks ago some friends called and we went to the park and had a picnic... it was a lot of fun, the kids really enjoyed being outside... even though it was a little cold that day! Here are some pics...

Oh, did I mention Faith broke her wrist?? Yep, she fell off her scooter 3 weeks ago... it's been a long month, and I'm glad to report we're doing better every day :)
